Part of our 2013 summer adventure brought us to Paul Stankard’s studio in New Jersey. Paul is an incredibly talented glass orb and paperweight maker, and my husband, Michael Hengler, and I were lucky enough to watch a few of these magnificent glass wonders being made right before our eyes. First the tiny glass petals, moss nests, and stems are created by the artist and his assistants. Then the petals are assembled into flowers and green tendrils are woven into nests. Next, Paul forms the clusters of the aforementioned items into a grouping of his liking. When the assembly is complete, hold molten glass is poured over the grouping and a glass orb is born.
Buoy & Boat installation in Wildwood, New Jersey this summer July 2013. The glassblowing artist, Michael Hengler, created 33 buoy sets in various sizes, etched his email address on them, and sent them adrift on their journey.
